Less than a month after his appointment as the new head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky suggests that he has changed several commanders.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said on Saturday that he had to make “personnel decisions” regarding some commanders on the eastern front, whose actions “threaten the lives and health” of their soldiers, writes The Kyiv Independent.
On February 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi appointed General Oleksandr Syrskyi as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Valery Zaluzhny, amid large-scale personnel changes in the leadership of the army.
Ukraine has faced increasingly difficult challenges on the battlefield in recent months as US military aid is blocked in the US Congress and Russia has increased pressure on the front.
“I continue to work on the Eastern Front. In three days, it became completely clear why… some brigades manage to hold back enemy attacks and hold their positions, while others do not,” Sirskyi said in his Telegram channel.
“First of all, it depends on the brigade commander, his training, experience and ability to make correct and balanced decisions,” he emphasized.
Sirsiy noted that he had sent specialists to the brigades that faced problems to provide them with assistance and advice.
He also said that according to the reports of the command, Sirskyi made all the necessary decisions regarding reserves and supplies of ammunition, drones and other equipment.
“In some cases, when the commander does not control the situation, and his actions and orders directly threaten the lives and health of subordinates, I am forced to make personnel decisions,” commented the Chief of the Armed Forces. without mentioning which commanders will be replaced.
Sirsky noted the combat work of several units, in particular the 54th separate mechanized brigade, which eliminated two columns of Russian armored vehicles with artillery fire and mines.
The commander also noted the merits of the 25th airborne and 47th separate mechanized brigades in the battles near Orlivka and Berdychy, as well as the 79th airborne assault brigade, which repelled Russian attacks in the Novomykhailivka area of the Donetsk region.
Sirskyi noted that the brigade, which had spent two years of continuous fighting, was transferred to the rear to restore combat capability. As “Ukrainian Pravda” reports, it was probably the 110th mechanized brigade that fought near Avdiivka.
Shortly after his appointment as commander-in-chief, Sirsky said the “fastest and most rational distribution” of military supplies was one of his key priorities.
A week later, Sirsky withdrew Ukrainian troops from Avdiyivka, a key front-line city in the Donetsk region, which had been under intense shelling for months “to avoid being encircled and to preserve the lives and health of servicemen.”
