There are many of them, car manufacturers have chosen Hungary to create European production.
Hungary, where car factories are located
The country is famous for its skilled and, above all, inexpensive workforce: salaries there are 2/3 lower compared to Germany, for example. Suzukithe initiator, since 1992 collects models intended for Europe, and currently Vitara and S-Cross. Audi produces a sedan and a convertible in Gyor A3, until Mercedes-Benz made Kecskemet the only production center for CLA and CLA Shooting Break. In general, these Eastern countries are popular for low production costs and flexible rights. Kia, PSA, Volkswagen, Land Rover and Volvo in Slovakia. Skoda, Hyundai and Toyota in the Czech Republic… Other manufacturers have already announced their intention to establish new production centers in the Hungarian country: Starting next year, BMW will assemble the Neue Klasse electric sedan there, and BYD (which already produces buses in Komaroma) will make it the main European assembly center, ahead of France, Germany and Spain, which are also on the shortlist. A Hungarian strategy that paid off for most of them, and in particular for… Suzuki!
Esztergom, the European champion in production
The fourth Japanese manufacturer settled in the country when the Iron Curtain fell in 1991. An amazing choice for the time (Nissan, Toyota and Honda chose the United Kingdom) because everything had to be done. Hungary never had a national car manufacturer and its industrial know-how in vehicles was limited to the production of tourist buses from Ikarus and Raba. That time seems far away, and Suzuki was smart: today the brand celebrates the 4 millionth car assembled at the Esztergom plant ! Traditionally specializing in small models (segments A and B), Esztergom used to be composed Suzuki Cultus, Swift, WagonR, Ignis and Splash in particular, and now Vitara and S-Cross, intended for 123 countries of the world. A big journey for a manufacturer that practically acts as a national manufacturer in the country: The S-Cross was a bestseller there in 2023, while in 2022 the Vitara took first place. The location in Esztergom could serve as a springboard for future electric models of the brand, such as the long-awaited EVX SUVplanned for next year and the production of which could be entrusted to the Hungarian site.
The 4 millionth produced Suzuki was hybrid Vitara GLX in white livery Ivory Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic.
