After ordering the suspension of Russia’s participation in the New Nuclear Weapons Treaty, Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that he had no intention of resuming negotiations with the United States on the matter and that Moscow’s strategic nuclear forces were “ready for use,” News.ro reports.

“The United States is offering Russia a strategic stability dialogue in an attempt to inflict a ‘strategic battlefield defeat’ on Russia, which is hypocritical. Washington’s claim of interest in such a dialogue is “demagoguery on the eve of the American presidential election,” said Putin, who is two weeks away from re-election.

“They just want to show their citizens – and everyone else – that they still rule the world,” Putin said, adding that “statements that Moscow intends to put nuclear weapons in space are baseless” and that “such insinuations (…) is a ruse only to get us to negotiate on their terms, which are beneficial only to the United States.

He also said that Moscow will not discuss strategic stability with Washington separately from its own national interests:

“If you want to discuss issues of security and stability that are responsible and important to the entire planet, you should only do so within the framework of one complex.”

He also accused the West of wanting to see a “fading and dying space” instead of Russia, and warned “potential interventionists” that their fate would be far more tragic than in past eras.

“The strategic nuclear forces of Russia are in full readiness for use, and the hypersonic complexes “Avangard” and “Peresvet” are ready for a combat mission,” the Russian leader said in a speech before the Federal Assembly.

Vladimir Putin once again assessed Russian weapons systems

According to him, everything that was planned in the field of weapons has been completed or is being completed.

“The Kinzhal hypersonic missile complex is not only put into operation, but is also used with high efficiency to hit particularly important targets during a military special operation,” Putin said, referring to the war in Ukraine.

“Avangard intercontinental hypersonic complexes and Peresvit laser complexes are in service,” the Russian leader added.

Interfax reports that, according to official data, Kinjal is an aviation system with a high-precision hypersonic aeroballistic missile based on the modernized MiG-31 long-range fighter-interceptor. According to the Russian military, it is capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 2,000 km, “guaranteeing” at the same time “overcoming all existing and developing air defense and missile defense systems.”

All the weapons plans announced in a speech to the Federal Assembly in 2018 have been implemented or are close to being implemented, the Kremlin leader also said, adding that the Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missile systems are already being used in a “special military operation,” and that hypersonic complexes of intercontinental range “Avangard” and laser complexes “Peresvit” perform a combat mission.

He also announced that the tests of the Burevisnyk cruise missile and the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle are being completed.

“Also, the first heavy ballistic missiles of the “Sarmat” series were delivered to the troops. In the near future, we will demonstrate their (power) in the base areas in combat service,” he said.

“Work on a number of other promising weapons systems continues. And we will continue to learn about new achievements of our scientists and gunsmiths,” he promised.
