All players in the automotive sector are preparing to go 100% electric, some faster than others…
Universal, high-end: the same fight
Peugeot, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Renault: mainstream car manufacturers no longer swear by electrics for their future strategies. But they are not the only ones! High-end manufacturers, especially sports cars and supercars, must also accept this new challenge to be able to be 100% electric in 2035, the fateful ultimatum set by the European Commission… In this game, some are ahead of others. others This is especially true Maserati, which has a stylish variant Folhor (“lightning” in Italian) its GranTurismo sports car and its Grecale crossover. The MC20 supercar and the upcoming Quattroporte sedan should be eligible this year. Ferrari and Lamborghini, which at first contributed to the deployment of hybrid engines, will take place in 2025 and 2028. But not only Italian manufacturers must adapt. Across the English Channel, in Great Britain, Rolls-Royce is already selling the Specter electric Grand Tourer from 2023. Its longtime arch-rival, Bentley, will join the fray in 2025. It won’t be the only British side, as Aston Martin is also actively working on its first battery-powered model…
Aston Martin prefers hybrids
This one was supposed to arrive next year, but here it is finally postponed to 2026. This was confirmed by the head of the brand, Lawrence Stroll, explaining that “consumer demand for electric vehicles is not at the level we predicted two years ago.” The Canadian businessman (and father of Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll) prefers, like Ferrari and Lamborghini, at first preference was given to hybrid models connected to the power supply network. “We are seeing much greater demand for plug-in hybrid models. Aston Martin customers are willing to accept some electrification, but still want the distinctive smell, feel and sound of a sports car.” This is a task that must be done Valhalla supercar, Aston Martin’s first hybrid, the first copies of which will be delivered this year. In June of last year, Aston Martin confirmed in any case that it wanted to enter the market four 100% electric models from 2025 (then it will be 2026) with the help of the American manufacturer Lucid, which already sells the high-end sedan Air and will launch this year his large Gravity SUValso electric.
In 2019, the brand launched a 100% electric version of its Rapide sedan, the Rapide E, of which only 155 units were sold.
