According to official data collected by ANRE, there were 110,355 prosumers in Romania at the end of last year. Their installed capacity reached a total of 1,442 MW, which is equal to the combined capacity of the two nuclear reactors in Chernavod.

Out of the total number of consumers, 95,205 are natural persons who have an installed capacity of 611.45 MW. Thus, it is observed that, on average, an individual consumer installed solar batteries with a capacity of 6.4 kW.

The total number of companies is 15,150 and their installed capacity is 831.39 MW, i.e. an average of 54.8 kW.

For comparison, at the beginning of last year, there were 44,413 consumers in Romania with an installed capacity of only 478 MW.

Ilfov County, champion of photovoltaics

The leading country with the largest number of photovoltaic panels is headed by Ilfov, where at the end of last year there were 8,536 consumers with a capacity of 111 MW.

The west of the country is followed by TimiÈ™oara with 6,007 prosumers with an installed capacity of 81.89 MW, Bihor (4,368 prosumers – 55.76 MW) and Arad (4,323 prosumers – 49.56 MW).

Dolj (4312 prosumers – 53.52 MW) and Argesh (4010 prosumers – 53.57 MW) continue the top.

There is not a single county in Romania where there are no consumers at all.

At the bottom of the ranking is Braila with 993 consumers who produce their own electricity, Karash-Severin (1083 consumers) and Botosani (1330 consumers).

Bucharest has 3,490 consumers with an installed capacity of 54.41 MW.

The development of photovoltaic energy continues

“It is clear that this phenomenon is developing,” said George Niculescu, president of ANRE, at a press conference held late last year.

ANRE expects this trend to continue this year, with additional PV panels of over 1,000 MW being installed.

“At the end of next year, we expect 2,500 MW of customer-owned capacity to be commissioned,” said Gabriel Andronac, vice president of the institution.
