AUR President George Simion says actor Dan Purich could be the party’s presidential candidate if local organizations vote for him in an internal contest. “He’s one of those people that I share a lot of values with,” George Simion said of Dan Purich. When asked if he wants to take part in the race for Kotrochen, the AUR leader replied that he was interested in “rather a leadership position.” “I am 37 years old, I have a future ahead of me. I want to see what kind of candidate we can have that will beat the PSD-PNL joint candidate,” said Simion. The AUR leader mocked NATO Undersecretary Mircea Joane, but says he is waiting for him in the party to discuss a possible presidential candidacy .
AUR President George Simion was asked on the Insider Politic show, broadcast on Prima TV on Saturday, whether actor Dan Puric would be AUR’s candidate in the presidential election, News.ro reported.
“Party members, our local organizations will decide. If he comes and convinces the majority of our party, he can be one of the candidates. Our doors are open until March 15th, come, convince our organizations, convince the AUR party of 15,000 paying members that they deserve to vote for you,” replied George Simion.
When asked if he would personally vote for Dan Puric as President of Romania, George Simon said: “Yes, he is one of the people with whom I share many common values.”
George Simon was also asked if he wanted to run for president from the post of AUR leader.
“I don’t want that, I’d rather be in a managerial position. I want to one day achieve the two political goals I have: block them, confuse them, stop them, not have decades of stability. After that, we will create normality. I don’t know how the year will end. I am 37 years old, I have a future ahead of me. I want to see what kind of candidate we can have that will beat the PSD-PNL joint candidate,” Simion said.
When asked who will be the joint candidate supported by PSD and PNL in the presidential elections, George Simion answered: “Cholaku wants more.”
“Joana didn’t come looking for us. If he wants the support of AUR, we are waiting for his conversation”
The President of the AUR states that Mircea Joane, Deputy Secretary of NATO, did not seek him for negotiations regarding the presidential candidacy, but is waiting for him for a discussion.
“He wasn’t looking for us. Waiting to see. We understand that he has a career in Euro-Atlantic structures, that he is inactive from a political point of view. I’m being ironic. He has been campaigning for a year and a half. Mircea Joane is a character who, if he wants to run for president and wants the support of AUR, we are waiting for him to speak,” said George Simion.
When asked if he voted for Mircea Joane in 2009 against Traian Basescu, George Simion said: “No. I did not vote in 2009. I voted and regretted it in 2004, for Trajan Besescu.”
George Simion claims he does not remember whether he voted in the 2009 presidential election.
“I don’t believe it. I don’t know anymore. I don’t remember anymore. I know for sure that in 2004 I was with my girlfriend at the time, I had just turned 18 and I was angry after the first round: “Look, Basescu didn’t win !”. And in 2009, I already saw the face of Traian Basescu and did not vote for him. Just as I could not vote in the second round of voting in 2014, having some options that did not suit me. I could not vote for Viktor Pontu, and Klaus Iohannis did everything in that campaign for my values, so that he did not win my vote, and I did not vote for him,” the AUR leader recalled.
When asked who he voted for in 2019 between Klaus Iohannis and Viorika Denchile, George Simion said: “I didn’t vote. I couldn’t vote for one worse than the other.”
