A group of French farmers stormed an agricultural fair in Paris on Saturday ahead of a planned visit by Emmanuel Macron amid anger over costs and regulations.
Encountering dozens of police officers in the market, farmers shouted and booed, demanding the resignation of the French president.
“This is our home!” they shouted.
There were several clashes with law enforcement agencies, and the police arrested at least one protester.
Afterwards, Macron, who is having breakfast with the leaders of French farmers’ unions, was due to visit the fair.
“I say this to all the farmers: you are not helping any of your colleagues by destroying the plantations,” Macron told reporters after a meeting with union leaders. The protests delayed the opening of the fair to visitors for at least an hour.
