In June 2023, 10% of tourists who visited our country stayed through Airbnb, i.e. 121,753 people, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. In addition, the American short-term rental platform reached $200 million in the local market last year, according to the draft “National Tourism Development Strategy of Romania” published in August 2023 by the Ministry of Economy, Enterprise and Tourism. , about 15,000 properties offered for rent on Airbnb:

“The sharing economy is increasingly becoming a phenomenon that affects Romanian tourism. For example, according to online statistics, Romania is represented by approximately 15,000 properties offered for rent on the Airbnb portal. About a quarter of them (3,910 objects in the first quarter of 2022) are located in Bucharest.”

The capital is, moreover, the main tourist attraction of Romania, and although Airbnb is developing and growing in our country, since we do not yet have a “surplus” of tourists, other cities in Europe, as well as around the world, have begun to impose strict restrictions on the platform All in the hope of reducing excessive tourism, which has bad consequences for cities as heritage sites, as well as for the way of life of citizens.
