First announced in 2007, then produced in four copies in 2018. This year 2024 seems about right.
Long story
The Shelby Series 1 opened the ball with a personal piece by Carroll Shelby himself in an attempt to pay tribute to the woman who made him famous, Shelby Cobra. If you waited a long time for the first series, it did not live up to expectations “next generation” Cobra with performance equivalent to the original Shelby. Instead, buyers were treated to a mix of different brands from the General Motors group. Therefore, the quality was not sufficient, and only 249 models were produced. In this context, Series 2 was supposed to enter in 2007. but only four copies were produced until we return this year. After years of anticipation and canceled projects, The Shelby Series 2 returns, with production limited to approximately 10 units. This new version of the iconic coupe promises to reignite the fire of the cobra brand with a unique combination of power, performance and refinement. With its design that tries to resemble a Cobra with a roof, the Series 2 is ready to win the hearts of enthusiasts. Almost a resounding ‘comeback’, but one that’s unlikely to excite the crowds given the technical issues of its big sister, the Series 1. Only 10 lucky people will be able to get it. Three Series 2s will be made of aluminum, and the other seven will be made of carbon fiber.
Modern Shelby
Under the hood, this 2 Series promises to honor its creator while modernizing. Thus, three engines are offered. 7.0-liter V8, the 7.3-liter V8 known as the “Godzilla” that is equipped with certain Ford pickups, and fully electric motor. The American brand also reports that the power Shelby will be able to about 1100 horsepower. To support it all, a cantilevered suspension, enlarged brakes and alloy wheels shod with high performance tires are fitted to the 2 Series to deliver road holding and handling that lives up to expectations. To afford this modern honor, the client will have to pay at least $380,000 for one of the seven series 2 in carbon fiber. For an all-aluminum, will have to add a little more than $83,000. Which is a total of less than half a million dollars. A hefty budget when we know the commercial failure that the Series 1 represented. One hell of a challenge awaits Wingard Motorsports, who are busy reviving the legend.
Will Series 2 be a worthy successor to Carroll Shelby?
