Great success
In recent years, the used car market has been growing rapidly, while the market for new models has generally been losing momentum. The reason for this is the very high prices and the endless waiting time. But that’s not all, because motorists are also increasingly interested in old and collector cars, of which there are now more than a million on the roads of France. And this love of the French for this type of transport was once again confirmed last year. Indeed, the collector car sector, defined as those put into circulation at least 30 years ago, registered a nice 4% increase for the whole of 2023. And it is not for nothing that at least 29,215 cars changed hands last year. A growing figure, which is nice to see. However, it’s important to note that trends vary widely across regions, as shown by data provided by AAAData.

Not all are equal
In fact, it is in Auvergne of the Rhône-Alpes recorded the largest number of collector car deals with 3,927 sales (+7%). It is followed by Nouvelle-Aquitaine, which occupies the second step of the podium with 3,611 sales (= 8%). On the other hand, the Ile-de-France region saw a 5% drop, with just 3,345 sales in one year. However, Corsica recorded the fewest deals with “old” cars — only 144 sales (+5%). Certain brands stand out among these sales. The 2CV was the star of transactions with 2,176 sales, followed by the Porsche 911 (521 sales) and the Citroën Dyane (322 sales). The Chevron Citroën brand remains the most popular among collectors, with 4,484 units sold (+5%). Renault is in second place with 3,448 units sold (+12%), while Volkswagen rounds out the top three with 2,466 units sold (+1%).
