A new Chinese car brand will soon be part of the European automotive landscape: Voyah, owned by Dongfeng…

Dongfeng, a Chinese group with an international focus

More and more Chinese car groups, through brands with clear positioning, have landed in Europe in recent months. This is the case BYDwhich has launched its eponymous brand and will soon introduce Denza and YoungWan. Geely also including Lynk&Co, Zeekr and soon Polestar will be among the various divisions to be put up for sale in France. We also note Chery who will arrive with Omodo and Jacku, SAIC with Maxus, or GAC with Aion and Trumpchi Among the main absentees of this western conquest were until now Dongfeng, a Chinese state-owned group, which in the past has stood out for its partnerships in China with PSA (through the DPCA joint venture) and Renault (DRAC). Although it did not enter the top 10 best-selling brands in China in 2023, Dongfeng with its international focus was the second best Chinese group by volume last year, inferior to its competitor SAIC (MG, Maxus, Roewe). Its vehicles are notably sold under the Aeolus, Voyah, Mengshi and DFSK brands. Witness this good health in the global market, the Wuhan group will launch its first brand in Europe this year: Voyah.

Voyah, a new brand eyeing France

Positioned at the top of the range, against German manufacturers and its national rivals Nio, Xpeng and Zeekr, in particular, Voyah has already been available in Norway since January 2023. Despite weak sales with only a few hundred cars registered in the country, the company is launching its major offensive into other European markets. Finland, Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy are under a special targetwith the first model: the Voyah Free. This is a large electric SUV that will compete with BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. With 489bhp, it claims a range (according to China’s CLTC) of 630km powered by a 108kWh battery. Its Swiss prices, which have already been announced, start from approximately 74,000 euros, which is high for a brand whose notoriety has not yet been established. Secondly, Voyah will present two more models: Dream, a large electric minivan (650 km of CLTC autonomy) and The Passion, a large sedan, is also electric, competing in particular with the Mercedes-Benz EQS. It promises up to 730 km of autonomy (CLTC). We’ll have to wait a bit before we know our French prices, but surprisingly they should be just as high…

In 2023, Voyah sold only 50,000 units in China, far behind its direct competitors…
