The World Bank, the United Nations, the European Union and the government in Kyiv published an estimate on Thursday, according to which the recovery of Ukraine after the war will cost 486 billion dollars.

The previous estimate as of March last year was $411 billion.

The devastation caused by the war launched by Russia in February 2022 affected, in particular, the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, Kharkiv in the northeast and Kherson in the south, located near the current front line, as well as Kyiv, according to France. Data show that 10% of Ukraine’s housing stock has been destroyed or damaged, continuing the displacement of Ukrainians from their communities.

The destruction of the Kakhovka dam and associated hydroelectric plant in the south of the country, which Ukrainians blame on Russian occupation forces in the area, has significantly affected the environment and agriculture and exacerbated the difficulties of those trying to find shelter, water, food and medical services, the World Bank adds.

In his statement, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, commented that a deep analysis of losses and needs “makes it possible to correctly define priorities, rationally allocate resources and achieve the expected results.”

The estimates do not cover the regions of Ukraine under Russian occupation, which were not available.

The World Bank also specifies how the sum of 486 billion dollars should be directed in the next ten years: 17% for housing construction, 15% for transport, 14% for trade and industry, 12% for agriculture, 10% for energy, 9% % – social assistance and means of livelihood, respectively 7% – explosion hazard management, etc.
