In December 2023, industrial production in the Eurozone and the European Union increased by 2.6% compared to November, when there was a growth of 0.4% in the Eurozone and 0.5% in the EU.

Among the EU member states for which data are available, the largest increases in December compared to November were recorded in Ireland (23.5%), the Netherlands (6.6%) and Denmark (5.6%), and the largest decrease in Slovenia . (-7.4%), Croatia (-4.3%) and Finland (-2.7%).

In the case of the EU, the production of capital goods increased by 18%, non-durable goods by 0.6%, while a growth of 0.4% was recorded for the production of energy and durable goods. The production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.7%.

Among EU member states for which data are available, the highest annual growth was recorded in Ireland (44.7%), Denmark (6.7%) and Malta (5%), and the sharpest decline in Slovenia (-10.2 %), Hungary (minus 8.7%) and Bulgaria (-6.9%).

However, the National Institute of Statistics of Romania announced on Wednesday that industrial production in 2023 fell, as a gross series, by 4.9% compared to the previous year, amid a decrease in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning from 9 .2% and processing industry with 4.6%.

In December 2023, compared to the previous month, industrial production (gross series) decreased by 16.4%, due to the decline recorded in the manufacturing industry (-21%) and extractive industry (-6.5%). Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, industrial production (gross series) decreased by 6.8%, as a result of the decrease recorded in three branches of industry: processing industry (-7.4%), extractive industry (-5.8%) ) and production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-4.1%).
