Prime Minister Marcel Čolaku said Russia had not deliberately attacked Romania and would not do so after residents of Tulcea and Galaţi received a Ro-Alert message last night amid the Kremlin’s attack on Ukrainian ports on the Danube. He emphasized that Romania has never been as secure from a military point of view as it is now.
On Saturday, at a press conference in Tulcea, Marcel Čolaka was asked whether he would take measures in the conditions of increased attacks on Ukraine near the border with Romania.
- “This is an anti-drone system that is already working. The Russian Federation has not made any deliberate attack on Romania, and I can tell you for sure that it will not do so either. This is not justified. We have a system that is already working on the banks of the Danube, especially in the Izmail area,” Marcel Čolaku said, according to News.ro.
He added that the population is informed about these attacks through Ro-Alert messages and that Romania has never been safer from a military point of view.
- “The state is obliged to inform. Sometimes this information bothers us, sometimes we don’t like it and, I repeat, at two o’clock in the morning and at half past four, as usual, I was informed about what was happening, but it was not an attack on Romania. . This is the respect that the state should show to the population, even if it interferes, it should be informed. This is the case everywhere in the world. I’m not lying, Romania has never been as safe from a military point of view as it is now. And it will never be safer than it is now. I am also intervening from the interim position of Prime Minister, which I hold at the moment, because some are alarming, but it is my duty to come before you and explain exactly the context and the truth,” said Marcel Cholaku.
He added that Romania is not threatened by war.
- “We all know what Ro-Alert means, we all know it’s not the first warning, but I think it’s the right one. As a citizen, especially after the revolution, I want to be informed and know the truth. But Romania is not threatened by war. (…) We have no human losses, there is no imminent attack on Romania, under any circumstances,” explained the prime minister.
On the night of Friday to Saturday, Russia again attacked ports in Ukraine, and Romanian authorities sent out RO-Alert messages in Tulcea and Galați counties to warn the population about the possible fall of drone debris. Turkish Air Force F-16s from Feteşti were flown to check the airspace, no unauthorized incursions were reported.
“This is an anti-drone system that is already working. The Russian Federation has not made any deliberate attack on Romania, and I can tell you for sure that it will not do so either. This is not justified. We have a system that already works on the banks of the Danube, especially in the Izmail area,” Marcel told Čolak.
