60 investigators from 23 countries participated in the coordinated operation from Europol’s headquarters in The Hague.

“We hope that these children will be able to return home quickly,” said Vincent Cillessen of the Dutch police’s international forensic team.

The information was passed on to the Ukrainian authorities, the police added.

The children were located using online tools and facial recognition. Specialists from Great Britain, Australia and the USA also participated in the operation.

Since the beginning of the war, almost two years ago, thousands of children from Ukraine have been abducted by the Russians, DPA notes.

The UN International Criminal Court (ICC) has already launched an investigation and issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.
