PNL Mehedinti leader Virgil Popescu announced the transfer of 15 AUR Mehedinci organizations to PNL at a press conference on Thursday, News.ro reported.

“Today, the Mehedinti PNL organization has become even stronger. More than 15 AUR Mehedinti organizations have joined our team with former AUR Mehedinti President Gheorghe Gancu, who will become PNL Mehedinti Vice President,” announced PNL Mehedinci leader Virgil Popescu.

“Together with our new liberal colleagues, we are ready to create an even stronger team to win the elections, to make Mehedinciul a liberal,” Popescu said. According to Virgil Popescu, “any exposure of the false patriotism promoted by George Simion, the Putinist trumpet, is good for Romanians, for the Mehedinci people.”

“This is what the colleagues who joined us did today: they showed by their political decision to join the PNL that everything in the AUR is a lie, that they serve the interests of Russia. They did not let Putin’s trumpeter George Simion, who came to the Mehedinci district to infuriate their decision and the PNL with proletarian anger, scare them. Those from AUR betrayed patriotism, Romanians. Because the one whom our brothers across the Prut, from the Republic of Moldova, declare undesirable, cannot be called a patriot,” said the ex-minister.

Virgil Popescu also touched on the topic of merging elections.

“This is a fake problem! On the contrary, citizens will be motivated to choose local and European, to integrate belonging to the European family. Those in the AUR think they are doing this because Putin does not want a combined election in Romania! We no longer do what Moscow wants. They confiscated our treasury and sent George Simeon instead. We don’t need it. We need liberalism to continue the irreversible process of development,” PNL leader Mehedinci said.
