Prefers neutral colors

Flavors and colors are well known, you can’t talk about them. And in terms of automobiles, as well as in other ways. Although some shades seem to be more popular than others. AND European motoristsas well as all over the world, prefer classicism when it comes to choosing the color of their new car. BASF, one of the leaders in the production of automotive paints, has just introduced indicators for 2023. The year coincides with the previous one, because again white, which was popular among European drivers, with a good third of the market share. Then there are gray, black and silver (which is different from gray). This leads some to argue that the automotive landscape is becoming increasingly bleak in terms of color as these four shades alone represent over 75% of cars sold in Europe. Then come blue and red, the only “real” colors that more or less stand out, followed by green, orange, beige, and yellow.

A global trend

Trends that are noticeable globallyor white color decorates 36% of cars, and black (21%), gray (15%) and silver (9%) dominate. However, it appears to be on the decline as it lost 3% market share to black last year, gaining the same share.

And here, blue is the first presented shade (8%), ahead of red (4%) and green (2%). This is followed by beige, brown, orange, yellow and purple with about 1% market share. As for the peculiarities of the regions, we note that The Asia-Pacific region is the only region that has seen an increase in color diversity. Europe is the region of the world where the blue color is proportionally the most represented, although in Red is a popular color in North America. L’South America is a place where achromatic colors (black, gray, white) have the largest share, but also spectacular pigments that “give depth to color families,” according to BASF.

After all, these trends are quite logical and reflect car manufacturers’ color charts, where shades of color are increasingly rare in favor of shades of gray and white in particular. These colors are also most often “free” shades many models, which may also explain their overrepresentation.
