Patient associations publicly demand from the authorities to cancel the 10% taxation of sick leave for chronic patients and patients with rare diseases.
“For a long time, Romanian rules treated the chronically ill as those receiving social assistance, pensioners supported by the state. Nowadays, chronic diseases affect more and more people, more and more young, active people with work and responsibilities. These people need to be encouraged to work, supported when they have problems, not discriminated against through income taxation,” says the Coalition of Organizations of Patients with Chronic Diseases, the largest association representing chronic patients in Romania.
“We understand that the decision on taxation was made against the background of a large number of sick leave, some perhaps unjustified, but we assure you that this does not apply to patients with chronic or rare diseases. Therefore, we ask you to take measures and remove the taxation of patients with chronic and rare diseases”, – say the representatives of the patients.
