​Nadia Podoroska celebrated the most important performance of her career at Roland Garros-2020 (she reached the semifinals), but she could not confirm it in the following seasons. The athlete from Argentina, present in Cluj-Napoca, left Transylvania Open 2024 already in the first round.

Nadia Podoroska, defeated by Klara Toson at WTA Cluj-Napoca

The 9th favorite of the competition in Romania, Podoroska (85 WTA) lost to Denmark’s Clara Towson (80 WTA), score 6-3, 6-1.

Most of the games were tightly contested, but Towson won almost every time. The match lasted an hour and a quarter.

  • In the 1/8 finals, Klara will meet the winner of the match between Jacqueline Christian (81 WTA) and Miriam Bulgaru (195 WTA). Towson clearly defeated Christian in the Linz qualifier on January 29, score 6-2, 6-0.
  • In October 2020, Podoroska became the first qualifier to reach the semifinals of Roland Garros. Then Nadia was recognized as the “Rookie of the Season” by the WTA.

Transylvania Open will be held from February 5 to 11 in Cluj-Napoca. The tournament is held on closed hard, is part of the WTA 250 category and has a total prize pool of $267,082.

The competition was held three more times: 2021 (Anette Kontaveit won, score 6-2, 6-3, after the final with Simona Halep), 2022 (Anna Blinkova won, score 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, with Jasmine Paoloni ) and 2023 (Tamara Korpatch lifted the trophy after 6-3, 6-4 with Gabriela Ruse).
