“We, in Romania, sometimes have an addiction to certain brands. We love brands. Certain companies understood and assumed this,” says Feliciu Parasciv, vice-president of the National Association of Small and Medium-Sized Traders of Romania (ANCMMR), during the CLCC conference.

He told at what price he buys milk in stores.

“The price of a liter of milk leaves the producer 2.2 lei. I will tell you the prices that we, retailers, received in January: 9.9 lei (the most expensive number),” said Parashchiv.

He also says that he also got it at 7.2 lei and also at 5.5 lei per liter, the latter price being the cheapest.

“Well, from 2.2 lei to 7.2 lei, how many times has that price increased? why Because I put it in a cardboard box? It is because I have a brand and everyone thinks it is the best milk,” said an ANCMMR official.

According to him, the peasant was always the poorest, and the miller in the village was always the richest.

“If the price of wheat fell, I heard about 75 pesos, or sorghum, why doesn’t the price of bread also fall? Here is a great nebula. Bread comes to us at the same price,” he said.

He also described the commercial chain so that everyone could understand how it works: “There is a producer: the one who goes to the field with a tractor. There is a processor: a person who takes products from someone in the field, processes them and gives out a finished product. There is a distributor who transports goods from the processor to the retailer. Sometimes the distributor does not exist: the distribution is carried out directly from the processor. Don’t confuse the processor with the manufacturer.”

The ceiling raised the prices of other goods: toilet paper, detergents and others

“We expect that after the discussion with the Government (which was supposed to take place on Monday) the ceiling will be extended. We are trying not to sound the alarm about what we have already seen: prices for uncapped products will rise unjustifiably,” he says.

According to him, if you look at chemical products, such as detergents, toilet paper, and non-clogging products, the prices have increased quite a lot.

“This is related to the effect of restriction, because it is not normal when someone intervenes in the supply and demand system that sets the price,” explained Parashchiv.
