According to gendarmes, the demonstrators refused to cooperate with the police and blocked traffic.

“Regarding yesterday’s public meeting in the Independence Splai area, the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie of the Municipality of Bucharest makes the following clarifications. The protest demonstration did not comply with the provisions on declaration and consent, according to Law No. 60 of 1991 on the organization and holding of citizens’ meetings, as amended. Taking into account the violation of the current legislation and the refusal to cooperate with the law enforcement authorities, which is expressed in the blocking of road traffic, the gendarmes applied 4 contra-conventional sanctions for a total amount of 30,000 lei,” the Metropolitan Gendarmerie reported on Saturday, as quoted by Agerpres.

Thus, the two people who participated in the AUR protest were fined 10,000 lei each, and the other two protesters were fined another 10,000 lei.

The Gendarmerie also reports that it continues to carry out inspections to identify and bring to justice other persons who broke the law at the protests.

About 200 people, including AUR party president George Simion, staged a protest on Friday outside the headquarters of the Financial Conduct Authority (ASF), accusing RCA of “uncontrolled” price increases.
