181 works of art from a collection spanning three generations of artists are part of the Corporate Collection of Contemporary Art Auction scheduled for Tuesday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. This is the first time a collection of works has been assembled over three decades by a Romanian company, which collected all these works mainly through purchases at exhibitions to support Romanian artists and encourage their gradual formation in the years after the revolution. It’s about the artists of the 70s and 80s, as well as the post-December and Z generations, united in the courage to express their ideas, inspire and challenge our imaginations.
Are we talking about artists who undermined the political regime until 1989 through their creation, choosing the image as a weapon of truth, regardless of whether they are artists who evolved during the transition from communism to democracy and faced new socio-economic challenges, or Gen Z artists concerned with the big themes of today’s agenda ( ecology, gender identity and technology), their work is a tool of political, social and cultural activism.
One of the most impressive lots is the named work “Peacock”, estimated at €1000-1600, which was made by Ionuț Barău from many recycled materials, including the “Răpirea din Serai” carpet. Ionuț Barău is an artist from Focşani who debuted in 2019 at Artsafari, as part of the Young Blood exhibition, and who challenges classical painting techniques, in this case also using various new materials (polyurethane foam, acrylic markers) and thermoforming techniques . In addition, he repeatedly uses in his works not only unusual materials, but also elements of the plant world, such as bushes, leaves, branches, thereby hinting that nature is his main interlocutor in an introspective approach.
There are also special works “Come to the side of the heart” Christiana Moldovana, estimated at 800-1500 euros, which “sweetens” the famous character of Darth Vader from the “Star Wars” film series, as well as “Calm them down!”Mark Verlan is an artist from the Republic of Moldova who created this work in 2010, as if predicting the Ukrainian war, which began on February 24, 2022. His painting was estimated at 2,500-3,500 euros.
The same auction includes the work of Teli Yaksha, “Social Unicorn”, made of a variety of materials, based on the model “make a paradise out of what you have”, estimated at 1,000-1,800 euros. The artist announced that she will donate part of the proceeds from this sale to the Veritas Sighisoara Foundation.
All these and many more, more than 180 works of art in total, can be admired in the Cesiano-Rakovice Palace at CA Rosetti Street no. 5 or online at artmark.ro. The exhibition at Artmark Galleries is open from Monday to Sunday, free of charge, from 10.00 to 20.00.
