
According to official figures released on Friday by the Telecom Arbiter (ANCOM), phone users unhappy with the price and terms offered by their own telecom operators moved more than 1.5 million phone numbers to other networks where they received better service last year. the price RCS&RDS is the operator that received the most numbers for both mobile and fixed communications.
Last year continued the upward trend in the volume of ported phone numbers, setting a new record for porting since the launch in 2008 of the portability service, which allows users to keep their phone number when changing carriers.
More precisely, more than 1.54 million phone numbers were transferred.
Records were also set for the average number of ports per month, which reached 128,439. The most ports, more than 140 thousand, were carried out in March and November 2023.
In the porting processes carried out in 2023, 37 fixed and mobile operators were involved. Of the total amount of transfers for the past year, 87% were carried out by users – individuals and 13% – by legal entities.

96% of the total numbers ported, i.e. over 1.47 million numbers, were mobile numbers and over 68,000 numbers were landline numbers.
RCS&RDS is the provider that received the largest number of mobile numbers through porting, namely 866,855, followed by Vodafone with 289,838 numbers received and Orange with 181,522. Telekom Romania Mobile Communications received 111,751 numbers, Orange Romania Communications received 22,876 and 104 others .
Of the total number of mobile phone numbers ported in 2023, 58% (851,637) were prepaid numbers.
Of the total number of landline numbers, the majority were transferred to the RCS&RDS network (24,276 numbers), Orange (13,344) and Vodafone (11,903).
Of the total number of landline numbers ported in 2023, 11,313 were independent numbers, numbers with free access and numbers with special rates.
During the past year, ANCOM received 450 number porting petitions in which users reported specific aspects related to the cancellation of porting processes, in the context of which they were re-offered by providers they intended to abandon, as well as termination of contract, associated with the number that was initially allocated temporarily.
We remind you that starting from August 15, 2023, if the transfer process is not completed, the receiving provider must, within 30 days from the last day of the transfer interval, ask the subscriber for consent to the extension of the contractual action. relationship through a temporarily assigned phone number, otherwise the contract associated with this number is automatically terminated without any formalities.
