However, not everyone is convinced that solid-state batteries are the key to the future of electric cars. Meanwhile, Lithium-ion batteries appear to be making significant progress, sparking renewed interest.

Mercedes was not convinced

Markus Schaefer, Mercedes’ chief technical officer, said improvements in the energy density of lithium-ion batteries had been achieved. “unexpected”. So much so that, according to him, they could compete “head” with solid-state batteries in terms of cost and energy density.

Mercedes remains generally skeptical about the need for solid-state batteries for future electric vehicles. However, Markus Schaefer admits that solid-state batteries have a safety advantage, but insists that lithium-ion technology is just as promising. However, Mercedes does not rule out the possibility of involvement in startups that are engaged in the development of solid-state batteries, so as not to close the door.

Advantages of a solid-state battery
