According to the latest data published by ANRE, there were 107,001 prosumers in Romania at the end of November 2023, 6,400 more than a month earlier. Their total installed capacity was 1,388 MW, the same as the two Chernavode nuclear reactors combined. The largest number of consumers, 8354, is in the Ilfov district.

The latest statistics published by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) show that 6,400 Romanians installed photovoltaic panels during November, bringing the total to 107,001.

A month before, in October, 6 thousand Romanians decided to take this step, and the order of magnitude was approximately the same as in previous months.

Of the total number at the end of November, 92,567 were individuals and 14,432 were legal entities.

In terms of installed capacity, prosumers brought 1,388 MW into the system at the end of November (as much as both Chernavode reactors combined), up 100 MW from the previous month.

Legal entities have a larger share of installed capacity, namely 793 MW, compared to 594 MW owned by individuals.

Thus, natural persons install an average capacity of 6.4 kW, and natural persons – 54 kW, NARE is publishing these data for the first time.

Countries with the largest number of consumers

It is noteworthy that there is not a single district in which there are less than 1,000 prosumers.

Most of them are located in Ilfov, their number is 8354, and their total installed capacity is 109.17 MW.

Timis – 5889, Bihor – 4121 and Dolj – 4194 continue the top.

The fewest prosumers are in Kovasna – 1,457 and Karash-Severin – 1,046.

The installed capacity of prosumers has tripled over the past year

ANRE officially centralized only the data until the end of November, but the authorities estimated that the year would end with 1,500 MW.

For comparison, at the beginning of last year, Romania had prosumers with an installed capacity of only 478 MW.

“It is clear that this phenomenon is developing,” said George Niculescu, president of ANRE, at a press conference held late last year.

“We estimate that by the end of the year we will have 1.5 GW of data that we have. Here we are going to exceed the capacity of the two reactors from Chernavoda.”

ANRE expects this trend to continue this year, when another 1,000 MW of PV panels will be installed.

“By the end of 2024, we expect 2,500 MW of customer-owned capacity to be commissioned,” said Gabriel Andronache, the institution’s vice president.
