President Klaus Iohannis has already signed the decrees appointing prosecutors Mihaila Moraru-Yorga and Remus-Julian Popa to key positions in the DNA and the General Prosecutor’s Office, proposed by the Minister of Justice Alina Gorgiou, despite the negative conclusions of the High Council of World Judges.

On Thursday evening, the Presidential Administration reported that Iohannis signed a decree appointing prosecutor Mihaila Moraru-Yorga to the post of chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Department of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate for a period of 3 years and prosecutor Remus-Julian Popa to the post of chief prosecutor. of the criminal investigation department of the prosecutor’s office at the High Court of Cassation and Justice for a period of 3 years.

On Wednesday, prosecutors Mihail Moraru-Jorga and Remus-Julian Popa held new interviews for these positions after receiving negative conclusions from the Section for Prosecutors of the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM).

The CSM’s opinion is advisory, and after arranging new interviews with those who have a negative opinion, the Minister of Justice can withdraw his proposals or forward the nomination proposal to the President.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Justice announced that Alina Gorgiou is continuing to work with two prosecutors and is sending proposals to President Ioannis for their appointment: Remus Julian Popa as head of the Criminal Investigations and Forensics Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office and Mihaila Morara. -Yorga to the position of chief prosecutor of the DNA anti-corruption department.

The Minister of Justice states that Moraru-Jorga has “solid professional experience” and Prosecutor Popa has “multifaceted experience recognized in the professional environment”:

• “Prosecutor Moraru-Jorga Michaela has considerable professional experience, she specializes in fighting corruption crimes, with many years of activity in the National Anti-Corruption Directorate.
• His management project is compatible with the development vision and directions of institutional activity of the chief prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, offering elements of management tools capable of ensuring the achievement of general goals and, in particular, strengthening the fight against corruption.
• Mr. Prosecutor Popa Remus-Julian is a prosecutor with multifaceted experience and recognized in the professional environment from which he comes, he combines additional professional training and knowledge of court management, aware of the need to adapt the Section to the continuous evolution of crime, the importance of the recovery of criminal products, digitalization and inter-institutional cooperation “.

She claims that both prosecutors “possess professional and personal qualities capable of contributing to the effectiveness of the prosecutor’s office in which they are in leadership positions, which is also confirmed by the consultation conducted before sending these proposals with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The Prosecutor’s Office at the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the Chief Prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate.”
