Still the leader last year in terms of electric car sales worldwide, Tesla today relies on a punch that goes beyond even the quality of its products.
Long “ahead of its time,” Tesla saw competitors arriving with strong arguments, but while that competition heated up, the Californian firm focused its efforts on other key factors in the development of an electric car. Obviously there is a Supercharger network, but also deployment of new super-efficient factories in terms of production.

It won’t take 40 seconds to build a full Tesla, but that number reflects the speed at which the models roll off the assembly line. This level of productivity allowed Giga Shanghai to build its first million cars in just two and a half years, while the second million took only 12 months.
What does the Tesla factory in Shanghai produce?
Giga Shanghai currently produces the Model Y SUV and the facelifted Model 3. Last month, the Shanghai factory saw an impressive ramp-up in Model Y production, now producing twice as many Model Ys as Model 3s.
While the Model 3s sold in Europe come from the Shanghai Gigafactory, this is not the case for the Model Y, which is manufactured at the brand’s German plant. Also, it still gets the Model Y an eco bonus in France over the Model 3.
