Russian dissident Alexei Navalny once again ridiculed the conditions in which he is being held by the Russian authorities, saying that the cold in the region of the “Polar Wolf” penitentiary, where he was transferred, reminds him of a well-known scene from a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, Reuters reports.
On December 25, Navalny’s supporters announced that they managed to track him down and staged him in the IK-3 colony of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in northern Siberia. Correctional colony IK-3 is located north of the Arctic Circle, at a distance of about 1,900 kilometers from Moscow.
Those close to the Russian dissident announced on December 11 that they no longer knew anything about him after Russian authorities apparently ordered his transfer to a stricter penitentiary as President Vladimir Putin prepares for a presidential election in March.
Now Navalny, in a publication shared on his accounts in social networks, said that immediately after leaving the mandatory quarantine after arriving at the pre-trial detention center, he was put in a “penal cell” because of his attitude.
“It has never been colder than -32°C,” he noted in a series of cheeky posts. “Nothing is more invigorating than a walk through Yamalia at 6:30 in the morning. Even at this temperature, you can walk for more than half an hour, only if you manage to grow a new nose, new ears and new fingers,” added Oleksiy Navalny.
Navalny says that the Siberian cold reminded him of the movie “The Exile”
The Russian dissident also shared a photo of the yard where he is allowed to go, noting that it is 3 steps wide and 11 long, “but at least something so that you can walk.”
5/10 In the photo below you can see my walking yard. From the wall 11 steps to the wall 3 — walking is not enough, but at least there is something, so I go for a walk. pic.twitter.com/8VCUVEfbaJ

Navalny also made a reference to a famous scene from the film The Revenant from 2015, in which Leonardo DiCaprio hides from the cold in a horse carcass.
“I don’t think it would work here. A dead horse will freeze in 15 minutes. We need a roasted elephant here,” wrote Navalny.
The “Polar Wolf” penitentiary is considered one of the strictest in Russia, most of the prisoners here are convicted of murder or particularly serious crimes. Located approximately 60 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, the penal colony was established in 1960 as part of the Soviet Gulag system.
Winters are often particularly harsh, and the weather forecast for next week says temperatures will reach -28°C.
