Third seed Olena Ostapenko reached the WTA quarter-finals in Brisbane on Thursday after defeating former world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The Latvian (26 years old, WTA No. 12) started the match strongly, winning the first set 6-2, but clearly lost momentum in the second match (lost 4-6).

The decider was balanced, the difference occurred in the sixth game, in which Pliskova (31 years old, 39th in the world ranking) surrendered her serve.

The series ended 6-3 in favor of Ostapenko and the 2017 Roland Garros champion reached the last eight in Brisbane.

The game lasted two hours and 19 minutes.
