Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been sacked as manager of Birmingham City, who are 20th in England’s second division.
Wayne Rooney has been sacked by Birmingham City
Rooney’s sacking came a day after his side thrashed Leeds United 3-0. Rooney was appointed on 11 October when Birmingham were in an encouraging sixth place in the Championship.
Since then, the former England international (38, 120 caps, 53 goals) has led his side to victory just twice in 15 games, with Birmingham currently 20th in England’s second division.
“Football is about results and I admit they weren’t at the level I would have liked. However, time is the most valuable thing a manager needs and I don’t think 13 weeks was enough to control the necessary changes,” Wayne Rooney wrote on his X account, according to News.ro.
Rooney also coached “Derby County” in the championship (23 wins, 21 draws, 34 losses), and then the American club “DC United” (8 wins, 7 draws, 16 losses).
