Free parking tends to disappear in France
There the disappearance of free parking in the city, unfortunately, will be one of the trends of 2024: for example, La Rochelle (17) Eliminates almost all free parking spaces on January 2, 2024, which caused outrage among residents.
HAS Strasbourg (67) at least 8,100 free parking spaces will disappear in the Neudorf and Orangerie districts, on the Zorn and Mullenheim embankments, as well as on Louth Street. Then they are payable from June 1, 2024.
Another example, in Dijon (21), paid parking will be expanded on several new city streets in February and March 2024, depending on the neighborhood. And till Kan (14) also in 2024, several free zones will become paid, and in the city center the cost of parking will be increased by 20%.
Parking is still a problem in Paris
It is difficult to talk about the parking problem without mentioning the capital: Paris. The municipality of Ann Hidalgo goes even further in stigmatizing motorists and strives the price of parking SUVs triples ! In fact, it will be difficult to focus only on this category of vehicles, since it is not specified in the registration document. Therefore, the weight criterion was retained: thermal and hybrid vehicles over 1.6 tonnes are under the sights, as are electric vehicles over 2 tonnes: so many users will be concerned, and not just SUVs.
Then this crazy project foresees for this category of motorists a progressive hourly rate of 12 to 18 euros for the first hour (depending on the area), which can increase up to 54 euros per hourfrom five o’clock… It will have to be studied during a so-called “citizen vote” on February 4, 2024, but without a doubt, this project will quickly become a reality in Paris!
Two wheels do not spare
In addition to cars, the expansion of paid parking in cities has also not bypassed two wheels. While the city of Paris has already introduced paid parking for two-wheelers in 2022, it is one of its neighbors, Boulogne-Billancourt (92) that will paid parking for motorcycles and scootersfrom January 1, 2024. As such, it joins Kremlin-Bicetre, Charenton-les-Ponts and Vincennes, other cities bordering Paris, which have adopted similar policies.
