The Environmental Protection Agency announces that it has launched a large-scale inspection at the Bucharest City Hall from Wednesday, which aims to:
- how the responsible persons reacted to more than 23 reports from the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the recorded exceedances of indicators monitored at air quality monitoring stations
- a calendar of events and a plan of activities to improve the quality of the environment in general and the quality of life of Bucharest residents
- steps taken by the City Hall regarding the program adopted with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests and transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively, the calendar of activities, the development of a new PICA (Integrated Air Quality Plan) for the Municipality of Bucharest, the update of studies that can identify the causes of quality problems air
“Otherwise, the City Hall is threatened with sanctions from the Environmental Protection Agency”
“Another control task is to check how those responsible for ensuring air quality, namely the Metropolitan City Hall, are implementing the measures they have adopted through the calendar for the completion of PICA 2024-2028. And here we mean, among other things, measures to regulate traffic, measures to limit traffic where appropriate, programming of infrastructure investments,” Meidu Guard also reported.
The institution shows that, according to the latest study, which became the basis for the development of the PICA PMB, air pollution in the capital is caused by:
- traffic (58%)
- residential heating from fossil and alternative sources (27%)
- industry and other services (13%)
“This control, which we started on December 20, will be the first step for the continuous monitoring carried out by the National Environmental Guard, as the main inspection and control body on the ground, to ensure that the duties established by law, responsible for the Metropolitan City Hall, will be carried out. Otherwise, the mayor’s office risks receiving sanctions from the commissioners of the HNM. We express our hope and confidence that the specialized apparatus of the PMB will take the necessary measures so that the citizens of Bucharest enjoy improved air quality during the holidays,” said Andrii Korlan, Commissioner General of the National Environmental Guard. .
