CFR Călători has signed several service contracts under the PNRR project, which involves, among other things, the modernization of 55 locomotives as well as 139 passenger cars. The railway vehicles will be modernized at Atelierele CFR Grivița, at Electroputere VFU Pascani, at Remarul 16 February Cluj at Reloc Craiova, at Softronic Craiova and at SCRL Brașov.

The total value of the investment project, including VAT, is 2,074,920,554.86 lei, CFR Călători reports.

The project is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, within the amounts approved annually for this purpose, in accordance with state investment programs approved by law, namely:

Union support – Loan/grant – 590,268,000.00;

National state contribution – 1,153,362,727.86 lei;

VAT cost – 331,289,827.00 lei.

What rolling stock is being modernized

The national railway transport company “CFR Călători” SA, as the beneficiary, announces the signing of the following contracts for the provision of services included in the financial contract no. 45/13.12.2023 from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), component 1 – Transition to a green economy, component C4. The cost of rolling stock modernization services will be covered by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Component 1 – Transition to a Green Economy, Component C4. Sustainable transport, Investment I2 – Railway rolling stock.

The fees for repair and maintenance services during the life cycle of the modernized rolling stock will be covered by the Public Service Contract concluded by SNTFC “CFR Călători” SA with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure through the Railway Reform Authority (ARF). The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is the coordinator of reforms and investments related to Component 4 – Sustainable Transport under Framework 1 – Transition to a Green Economy of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The overall goal of the project is the modernization of 55 electric locomotives intended for towing passenger trains, the conversion of 20 hydraulic diesel shunting locomotives to electric locomotives with batteries and the modernization of 139 passenger cars, which will have the effect of increasing mobility around the socio-economic centers of the country and improving the quality of services, as well as achieving rapid communication between important administrative and territorial units of the country.
