​The mayor’s son-in-law, Katalina Čerečesa, has taken DNA to court in a case in which prosecutors accuse them of trying to bribe a judge between 50,000 and 100,000 euros to get a favorable ruling in the mayor’s corruption case. Meanwhile, Cherechesh was finally sentenced to prison and fled the country a few hours before the sentencing, and was caught a few days later in Germany.

DNA announced on Tuesday that it had sued Cherechesh’s mother-in-law and father-in-law for bribery and complicity in bribery. Two are in protective custody.

The case was referred to the Court of Mures with a proposal to maintain the preventive and protective measures imposed in the case.

Later, Klaudia Gliga was arrested by DNA prosecutors for bribery, together with the mayor’s father-in-law, accused of complicity in bribery.

Accusations made by the DNA of Cherechesh’s father-in-law:

• “On November 25, 2023, in the context of the corruption case against their relative, which is currently at the appeal stage, the defendant allegedly contacted a person (a witness in the case), a relative of one of the judges. on the panel , and would offer to buy a company that the latter owned in the county of Mures for between 50,000 and 100,000 euros, also indicating the possibility of listing other ill-gotten gains. This original “offer” would only be valid under the conditions that the relevant magistrate would issue a favorable verdict (softer decision) in a case in which a relative of the defendant would be tried for alleged corruption crimes.
• Later, on November 6, 2023, the defendant promised the judge, through the same witness, the sum of 50,000 euros, which was an advance from an amount that had not yet been quantified, but was at least equal to the previously mentioned amount. , the rest will be returned after the day of the court’s acquittal in the relevant case.
• In the context mentioned above, on November 8, 2023, in a restaurant within the radius of the municipality of Cluj-Napoca, the defendant gave the witness a promised advance of 50,000 euros and other illegal benefits, in connection with which a flagrant crime was committed. is established.
• In the steps described above, the defendant would have been helped by her husband both morally and materially, the latter providing the wife with transport both in order to “solve the problem” in Baia Mare and later, after transferring the sum of 50,000 euros. “.

Katelin Cherechesh said he had nothing to do with the attempted bribery of the judge, describing the whole incident as “all kinds of household stories…”.

On November 24, Cătălin Cherecheș was finally sentenced to 5 years in prison with execution for bribery. There was a judge in the judicial panel, whom Cherechesh’s in-laws tried to bribe.

A few hours before the sentencing, Cherechesh managed to flee the country, although he was under judicial control and was reported at the border.
