American boxer Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez defeated Britain’s Sunny Edwards by knockout on Saturday at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, adding the IBF bantamweight title to the WBO belt he already held.
Both were undefeated as professionals, but Rodriguez quickly took control of the match and landed a powerful left on Edwards in the 9th round.
The Briton managed to recover, but his corner asked the referee to stop the match, reports Agerpres.
Rodriguez has 19 victories in as many fights, 12 of them by knockout. For his part, Edwards played 20 games in which he won, four of them by the limit.
Rodriguez won his vacant WBO title in April against Mexican Cristian Gonzalez Hernandez.
