Not a week goes by without a Chinese brand announcing its intention to enter the European market. The one that concerns us today is called Jaecoo will offer – lo and behold – a compact SUV (segment C), J7! The new model is offered in gasoline or hybrid versions. Jaecoo is here short for German “Jaeger”, “hunter” in French and “cool”. AND its first model called J7 might make those nostalgic for old Peugeots smile. But it is obvious that the Chinese model has nothing in common with the French van. It SUV 4.50 mwhich thus falls into the Volkswagen Tiguan, Renault Austral and Peugeot 3008 category.
In gasoline and hybrid engines
The interior is announced as “sober and spacious”, but the brand has yet to release an official image. However, we can console ourselves with photos of the version that is already on sale in China (see below), which, in particular, indicates 14.8-inch panoramic screen combined with projection display in the windshield. Under the hood a one engine 1.6l 167 horsepower, associated with a 7-speed automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid version will also be offered.
All-wheel drive is standard, in combination with the off-road selector, which allows you to change the response of the car depending on the terrain on which it moves. It will also be able to overcome fords 60 cm deep… something most buyers of this type of car will probably never use. The price is not yet known, but sales will begin in 2024 in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and the UK.
Jaecoo, Omoda, Exlantis: Chery’s strong arm for Europe
new brand Last October, Jaecoo sold only 4,633 cars worldwide. But its parent company Chery has considerable influence: it is among the top ten Chinese car manufacturers! Also, Jaecoo won’t be the only brand coming here next year Chery will also introduce Omoda“which targets a relatively young audience with an all-electric SUV with a range of 450 kilometers”, and Exlantix, a more luxurious brand. While plans for the latter remain rather vague, the other two should quickly comprise a range of three models to be sold by the same dealers.
