In 2023, Sinner, 22, won his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto, reached the Nitto ATP Finals and became the first Italian to finish a season in the top 5 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

The world number four, who finished the year at 64-15, also reached her first major semifinal at Wimbledon under Cahill and Vagnozzi. The sinner has won four trophies in 2023 and won the Fans’ Favorite award earlier this week.

Vagnozzi has been with Sinner since February 2022, but has known about Sinner’s potential for much longer.

“I have known Yannik since I was 14 years old. He was playing against one of my juniors so I saw him there for the first time.

It’s a lot of fun coaching him because he’s a really funny guy. He has a very good character.

It’s also easy to train Yannick because he wants to improve a lot and he always comes out on the field with a smile on his face, so it’s very good for a coach,” Vagnozzi told atptour.com earlier this year.

Cahill, who coached former no. 1 Andre Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt, who also coached Simona Halep, joined the Sinner team in June 2022. The Australian focused on developing the mental side of the Italian.

“My role is more about experience and how to help him mentally in those big moments and make sure we’re working on the right things that will ultimately get him where we want him to go,” Cahill said earlier this season, according to from News.ro.

Cahill and Vagnosi were nominated for Coach of the Year along with Craig Boynton (Hubert Gurkach), Juan Carlos Ferrero (Carlos Alcaraz), 2022 winner Goran Ivanisevic (Novak Djokovic) and Brian Shelton (Ben Shelton). Nominees and winners in this category are voted for by fellow trainers.
