Argentina’s new president, Javier Millais, who cloned his own dog and calls his four-legged friends “four-legged children,” unexpectedly ordered the car he was in to leave after taking office on Sunday to greet a dog fan: a lost golden retriever, Reuters reported.
The right-wing libertarian, who has shaken up Argentine politics with radical economic ideas and theatrical rallies, got out of the car that was taking him to the Casa Rosada government palace in Congress and spent a moment petting a dog that appeared to have lost its owner.
Miley has at least four cloned mastiffs, which she repeatedly mentioned during the presidential campaign and to which she dedicated her first victory in the August primary election.
The 53-year-old ultra-liberal economist paid $50,000 to clone his original dog Conan, who he adopted in 2004 and who died in 2017. He once told local media that Conan was one of his closest confidants and called his cloned dogs advisers.
According to the company that cloned the dogs, at least four “nephews” followed Conan: Murray, Milton, Robert and Lucas, named after Miles’ favorite economists, including Milton Friedman.
The departure from protocol to salute the golden retriever came after Miley was sworn in as president of Congress, warning the country of tough times ahead and painful shock therapy to fix the economy.
