The Columbus Crew, a team signed by Romanian Alexandru Matan, won their third ever US title with a 2-1 win over Los Angeles FC in the MLS Finals.

Ohio State scored through Cucho (’33, penalty) and Yau Yeboah (’37), while LAFC (defending champion) closed the gap thanks to Denis Buanga (’74).

Alexandru Metan was a regular player for the Columbus Crew, while important footballers such as Carlos Vela or Giorgio Chiellini played for LAFC.

At the end of the game, Metan celebrated with the Romanian flag on his shoulders. In the current season, Alex collected 40 games in the “Columbus Crew” shirt, scored three goals and provided 11 assists.

In 2021, Columbus Crew paid 1.5 million euros for the services of a footballer from FC Viitorul (Farul Constanța). Metan was loaned to Bucharest Rapid for several months, and returned to MLS at the beginning of 2023.
