A teacher showed his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad during a course on free speech, angering some Muslim parents. Most Muslims avoid images of prophets, considering them blasphemous.

Among the six children on trial is a teenage girl who allegedly told her parents that Pati had asked Muslim students to leave the classroom before the cartoons were shown.

The court found her guilty of false accusations and defamatory comments, as it turned out that she was not in the classroom at the time.

The six teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, were summoned to court in turn to detail their sentences, which generally met the requirements of anti-terrorist prosecutions.

The trial was held strictly behind closed doors, given their young age at the time of the events – from 13 to 15 years old.

Pati, 47, was killed outside his school in a Paris suburb by an 18-year-old assailant of Chechen origin who was shot by police shortly after the attack.

The court found these teenagers guilty of pointing Pati to the killer.

On Friday in Paris, the six were given sentences ranging from 14 months – suspended – to six months in prison – with firing squad – and wearing an electronic bracelet.
