The Ministry of Health yesterday evening announced a measles epidemic in Romania for the second time in 7 years.

Among the main reasons for refusal of vaccination of the CPC are failure to see a doctor, lack of vaccine in certain periods, as well as parents’ refusal of this vaccine, a higher percentage of refusals in the urban environment and the biggest problems, according to the data of the National Institute of Public Health, in the case of two doses.

What are the main reasons for refusing the PDA vaccination?

  • 1. The first place among the reasons for non-vaccination is non-attendance both together and separately, according to habitats. A higher value was recorded in the urban environment, the difference compared to the rural environment was statistically significant (p = 0.00001) CI 95% [ 0429977; 0546864].
  • 2. “Birth/going abroad” was in second place among the reasons for refusing vaccination. both together and separately, according to habitats. A higher value was recorded in rural areas, the difference compared to urban environments was statistically significant (p = 0.0000) CI 95% [(- 0340458); (-0259459)].
  • 3. The lack of the PDA vaccine ranked third among the reasons for non-vaccination both together and separately, according to habitats. A higher value was recorded in rural areas, the difference compared to urban environments was statistically significant (p = 0.0000) CI 95% [(- 026447); (-199782)].

  • 4. Rejection of vaccination with the second dose of PDA has an important weight among the reasons for refusing vaccination, registering a higher value in the urban environment; the difference between the mean values ​​of residence is highly statistically significant (p = 0.0000) 95% CI [003045; 0026921].
  • The highest percentage of children refusing to be vaccinated with the second dose of MMR in the study sample was recorded in Ilfov County (25.1%), followed by the following counties: Arad (19.6%), Tulcea (12.5%), Konstanz ( 11.9%), Cluj (11.7%).
  • In only 2 districts (Braila and Satu Mare) was failure to receive a second dose of MMR not reported as a reason for failure to receive vaccination according to the age of any of the children with a vaccination history examined.
  • The proportion of age-appropriate reasons for non-vaccination in the total number of age-appropriate unvaccinated children is presented in the table below:
  • 5) Medical contraindications to vaccination they recorded approximately the same values ​​in urban and rural areas, the difference is not statistically significant compared to rural areas (p = 0.165) CI 95% [(-0008491); 0050099].
  • Regarding the percentage of children with temporary medical contraindications in the studied sample, the values ​​do not differ statistically significantly between living environments (p = 0.2193) CI 95% [(- 0010706); 0046901]being roughly equal in the village and the city.
  • The highest proportion of this reason for non-vaccination according to age was registered in the counties of Arges (26.7%), Sibiu (22.9%), Tulcea (20.2%) and Botosani (18.6%).
  • Temporary medical contraindications were not registered as age-appropriate reasons for refusal of vaccination for any of the children belonging to the studied sample in the districts: Bistrica – Neseud, Giurgiu, Jalomica, Ilfov, Prahova, Satu Mare.
  • 277 children with obvious medical contraindications were registered: 173 in urban areas and 104 in rural areas.
