Driving in the Paris region, and especially in the center of Paris, is no longer a gift, so during the Olympic Games, which will take place from Friday 26 August to Sunday 11 August 2024, it must be even worse.

Indeed, as Laurent Núñez, prefect of the Paris police, explained to our colleagues at Le Parisien, it will be necessary “show white paw” for two weeks, drive through the streets of the capital and near one of the future Olympic facilities.

What areas will be affected in Paris?

If your home or workplace is located near the Olympic zone, you will definitely be asked for documents confirming your trip to the capital.

Obviously, not all streets of the capital will be affected.but these known no-motorized zones should cause a spike in traffic on other axes, causing other congestion.

The only consolation prize for Parisian motorists is that Olympic Week takes place in the summer, when Paris is usually “empty”, even if most of the residents will be “replaced” by Olympic spectators.

In fact, there will be traffic perimeters deployed by the police as close as possible to the stadiums and Test grounds, where preference will be given to pedestrians and cyclists. The movement of motorized vehicles, both cars and two-wheelers, will be completely prohibited unless an exemption is granted.

According to Laurent Núñez, this will involve “Residents who have parking spaces, those who visit vulnerable sections of the population, emergency and rescue vehicles, evacuation vehicles”but also “Columns of athletes, delegations, journalists and event organizers. Taxis and VTCs must be authorized there if they are dropping someone off and only with proof. »

This document that materializes in the form of a QR code (it will give some good memories!) and it will also be useful for merchants to have vehicles circulating around the perimeter. To get it, “You will need to pre-register on the digital platform by providing a number of supporting documents, including but not limited to your address”, specifies the prefect of the Paris police. The platform should be placed online as soon as possible, in March 2024.
