Toyota: 300 million cars have already been produced Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Toyota announced that it produced more than 300 million vehicles in total, according to the latest figures completed at the end of September 2023. This is a new symbolic threshold that the Japanese manufacturer crossed more than 88 years after the production of its first car.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the customers who chose Toyota vehicles, to those who put heart and soul into creating each vehicle, to the suppliers and dealers who supplied them with care, and to all other members of our team. I believe that this 300 million unit figure was only possible due to the tireless efforts of employees throughout the company, from the planning and design of parts and vehicles to manufacturing, logistics, sales and service, and all those who work to support every step of the way.”said Koji Sato, President of Toyota: “All our colleagues have overcome countless challenges in recent years: natural disasters, fires, the Covid-19 crisis and even lack of chips. Every time we were in danger of losing the ability to produce cars, everyone worked together to restore or adapt production. In the future, we are confident that we will never forget everyone who has supported our automotive industry, and we will do our best to create better and better cars and make customers smile. »

Toyota: more than 88 years of production

The Japanese manufacturer’s first car was released in August 1935: the G1 van, produced by Toyoda Automatic Loom Works a few years before the company became Toyota Industries Corporation.

In detail, of these 300 million cars produced, we find a total of 180.52 million cars produced in Japan, as well as 119.6 million cars produced at other plants of the Japanese group located around the world.

Toyota, however, did not announce which model reached this symbolic milestone in the production of 300 million vehicles. Last year, Toyota produced at least 10.5 million cars. At this pace, 400 million units should be reached in less than 10 years.

Toyota Corolla is the most produced model

The most produced model in the brand’s history is the Toyota Corolla: to date, more than one in 6 Toyotas produced is a Corolla. Indeed, 53.399 million units were produced, still in line with total figures set for the end of September 2023. The famous compact car has been in production since 1966 and is still sold today in its 12th generation: today it is one of the oldest cars still in production.

For more than 10 years, Toyota has also been successfully represented in our regions: the Toyota Motor Manufacturing France plant, located in Onnain, near Valenciennes in the north (59), became the first car production in France. Last year, the company reached the milestone of one million hybrid cars produced on its lines: the all-wheel drive Toyota Yaris Cross, delivered to a French customer. It’s also the French plant that produced the 10 millionth Toyota Yaris last year.
