New Opel Grandland: what we already know Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Overshadowed in France by the success of the Peugeot 3008, the Opel Grandland still has a distinguished career in Europe, with nearly 300,000 units sold since its presentation at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Opel Grandland, which is available in both diesel and petrol, and even a hybrid starting from phase 2, is not surprising to be updated soon, even if in France the shadow of 3008 will always hover over his roof.

A new platform for the future Opel Grandland

It is expected that the second generation of the German SUV will be presented in the second half of 2024. The car will be built at the Stellantis plant in Eisenach, Germany, and will, unsurprisingly, be based on the new STLA Medium platform which is known to be used for a large number of future models from the Stellantis group.

Also among them is the new Lancia Gamma and the new Jeep Compass. The Peugeot 3008’s technical cousin, the Grandland, will use its engines with the same power levels and a similar range for the electric versions.

A large amount of electricity

So, at startup, three 100% electric motors should be offered. If we rely on what was announced about the 3008, here is what we will find in the future Opel SUV: Autonomy (210 horsepower and 525 km of autonomy), Dual Motor (320 horsepower and 525 km of autonomy). Great autonomy (230 horsepower and 700 km of autonomy).

The NMC 400 V battery (73 or 98 kWh depending on version) will be compatible with ultra-fast charging 160 kWwhich allows you to restore 80% of the power in 30 minutes.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines will also complete the catalog when it is started, as well as the heat engine. It remains to be seen whether the latter will be offered in France.

In terms of styling, the new Opel Grandland will feature a new front end with a revised Vizor grille. Its design should have many elements in common with the recent Opel Experimental concept car presented by the manufacturer at the last Munich Motor Show.
