Chinese electric car giant BYD plans to build its first European car factory in Hungary, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS) reported on Saturday, Reuters and News.ro reported.
According to some sources close to BYD cited by the publication, the decision has already been made within the company.
A government website in Shenzhen, where BYD is based, published an article last month that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu during a visit to the company.
BYD officials told Reuters they were still looking for a suitable location and would make an announcement at the end of the year.
The Hungarian government did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
