
The Metro chain of stores has informed its customers that cash payments will be limited to 2,000 lei including VAT due to the tax increase law.
“According to Law No. 296/2023, starting from 11/11/2023, cash payments will be limited to a value of 2,000 RON including VAT/CUI/day,” Metro said on its website.
The Cholak government’s tax hike law contains some provisions that take effect on November 11, 2023. Many measures, tax increases and the introduction of new ones will come into effect on January 1.
Therefore, from 11 November 2023, many withdrawals/inflows of cash are restricted.
For example, between two legal entities, these payments are limited to 1,000 lei per person (now 5,000 lei) and 2,000 lei for cash&carry service providers, not exceeding 2,000 lei per day (now 10,000 lei).
In the case of legal entities (company type) for individuals, the maximum amount is 5,000 lei/person until December 31, 2024 and 2,500 lei/person after January 1, 2025.
Payments from individuals to other individuals are limited to 10,000 lei per transaction until December 31, 2024, and to 5,000 lei starting from January 1, 2025.
Penalty for non-compliance with the limit of receipts/payments or exceeding the limit of cash in the cash register – a fine in the amount of 25% of the amount that exceeds the specified limits, but not less than 500 lei.
