According to Chechen officials cited by Russian media, Ramzan Kadyrov’s son has already received the second-highest award from Tatarstan, another Russian Muslim-majority republic, on Tuesday. The authorities of Tatarstan do not comment on this issue. The award came after criticism from Tatarstan MP Azat Khamaev, who publicly questioned the rule of law in Russia after the publication of a video showing Adam Kadyrov beating a young man accused of burning a Koran. The image was made public by Ramzan Kadyrov himself at the end of September, who said that he was “proud” of his son. Tatarstan leader Rustam Minnikhanov distanced himself from criticism of Khamaev, who eventually had to apologize for his comments.
