The head of the Russian Republic of Karatsey-Cherkessia, a Muslim region in the Russian Caucasus, Rashid Temrezov announced on Telegram that he is awarding 15-year-old Adam Kadyrov with his region’s highest award in recognition of his “personal contribution to the development” of inter-ethnic and inter-regional unity and the consolidation of traditional Islamic values. .

According to Chechen officials cited by Russian media, Ramzan Kadyrov’s son has already received the second-highest award from Tatarstan, another Russian Muslim-majority republic, on Tuesday. The authorities of Tatarstan do not comment on this issue. The award came after criticism from Tatarstan MP Azat Khamaev, who publicly questioned the rule of law in Russia after the publication of a video showing Adam Kadyrov beating a young man accused of burning a Koran. The image was made public by Ramzan Kadyrov himself at the end of September, who said that he was “proud” of his son. Tatarstan leader Rustam Minnikhanov distanced himself from criticism of Khamaev, who eventually had to apologize for his comments.

On October 6, Adam Kadyrov was already awarded the title “Hero of Chechnya”.

At the end of September, Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov refused to comment on footage showing Adam Kadyrov abusing a detainee. “I’m telling you now that I won’t comment on the story of Kadyrov’s son… I don’t want to,” he told reporters.

Ramzan Kadyrov, a loyal and staunch ally of Vladimir Putin, is accused of numerous human rights abuses in his republic, as well as of organizing the kidnapping and murder of his critics in Russia and abroad.
