Toyota presented a concept called the Lexus LF-ZC at the Tokyo Motor Show, which it says will have a range of about 1,000 km. Toyota is working on more efficient batteries and says that autonomy will be greater thanks to the miniaturization of some components.
The Lexus LF-ZC concept is a large class sedan, measuring 4.75 m in length, which is 23 cm shorter than the Lexus ES sedan that the company sells in Europe. Lexus ES costs from 53,000 to 78,000 euros.
For the LF-ZC concept, it is promised that very high autonomy will be possible thanks to much smaller and better lithium-ion batteries, as well as thanks to the miniaturization of some components. The model, Toyota says, will be one of the most aerodynamic on the market. We can suspect, without fear of mistakes, that the car will cost somewhere around 100,000 euros.
Toyota wants the Lexus brand to sell only electric cars from 2035.
At the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota also unveiled a premium SUV concept called the LF-ZL. The LF is derived from the Lexus Future.
In July, Toyota announced that it had overcome another major hurdle and that its solid-state battery technology would allow it to produce a model with a range of 1,200 km and a charging time of just ten minutes. Such a model will enter the market no earlier than 2027 or 2028.
Toyota said in the summer that it has overcome an important obstacle and simplified production processes, so that in the future it will be possible to produce electric cars with batteries that are much smaller than today’s, but with significantly more autonomy.
Toyota also said that in 2027 it hopes to launch the first model with solid-state batteries, and the “holy grail” is to bring to market a model with a range of 1,200 km and a charging time of 10 minutes per super station – fast.
This would be a huge change compared to the current situation, where a €30,000 electric car has a range of 250-300 km and is fully charged in a few hours from a regular outlet.
