Google is disabling the feature of current traffic conditions in Israel and Gaza in its Maps and Waze apps, a company representative said on Tuesday, as quoted by CNBC.
The move comes as Israel is expected to launch a ground invasion of Gaza.
“As we have done in the past during conflict situations and in response to the development of the situation in the region, we have temporarily disabled the ability to view real traffic conditions and information about traffic jams due to considerations related to the safety of local communities,” – the spokesperson. Google said in a statement.
“Anyone traveling to a specific location will still receive routes and ETAs that take current traffic conditions into account.”
A spokesman said Google is cooperating with local authorities in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately respond to comment on whether they had requested the restrictions.
According to Reuters, Google similarly turned off live traffic data on Maps in Ukraine last year at the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Israeli website Geektime first reported the news on Monday. (News.ro)
