Russian troops are carrying out large-scale strikes in many areas of the eastern front, including in the directions of Avdiyivka, Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut and Maryinka, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Monday, citing the Kyiv Independent.
On October 22, more than 90 combat operations with Russian troops were recorded on all fronts, the report says. The last few days have seen an unusually high daily number of clashes, sometimes double the number seen in mid-October.
Russia continues its attempts to surround the front-line town of Avdiyivka in the Donetsk region, suffering significant losses, the General Staff reported.
According to the head of the military administration of Avdiyivka, Vitaly Barabas, Russian troops are intensively shelling the vital road to the city. This complicates both the evacuation of the civilian population and the delivery of humanitarian aid, an official told Radio Free Europe.

According to the General Staff, Russia carried out strikes in several directions along the Lyman-Kreminna-Kupyansk line, in particular on Synkivka, Ivanovka, Nadiya and in Serebryansk Forest.
Since the summer, Moscow has been concentrating large forces in the direction of Lyman-Kupyansk in northeastern Ukraine, probably trying to divert Kyiv’s attention and resources from other sectors.
It is reported that Russian troops also tried to “separate” Maryinka, another front-line city in the Donetsk region, which for a long time was a hot spot of hostilities on the eastern front.
“Get down; they want to cut Maryinka,” the border guard with the call sign “Lion” reported on the border guard’s Telegram channel. “We are all ready, we are waiting… we must stand up, we have no other way out,” he added.
